A couple had bought a house and the extention had started breaking away from the main part of the house. Turns out that the extention was built on an infilled stream and had'nt been underpinned properly. Not only that the whole house was built on shrinking and swelling clay. Fortunately the main part of the house had had suitable deep rooted foundations to counteract the effects of the clay.
