Wind power knows no bounds. To harness this power is the bottom-line for cheap electricity and increased efficiency. It is believed that the wind in the atmosphere is much greater than that is required by the world. Study reveals that the potential of wind power on land and near-shore is close to 72 terrawatts (TW), or over five times the world's current energy use in all forms.
What causes the winds? Wind is caused by the uneven heating of the land surface by the sun. When the sun heats the earth, warm air over the land expands and rises whereas the heavier, cooler air rushes in to take its place, creating winds.
Wind investments have risen over the years. Thanks to the many new technologies that have come up to enhance its efficiency. On of the most innovative has been the invention of wind turbines.
Wind turbines transform the energy in the wind into mechanical power, which can then be used to generate electricity. These turbines can be used singly or in clusters, also called wind farms. Large batteries can be charged using small wind turbines called aero-generators.
