Hydro Wave – Tidal
Hydro electricity is the most common type of renewable energy. It involves generating electricity by generating power through the gravitational force of falling water. Hydroelectricity produces approximately 20 percent of the world electricity.
Wave energy is where the power of waves are harvested by specially built devices to generate electricity. The potential of this type of energy is vast the problem is in the extraction of the wave power. As a result of this there are many devices being developed as technology and ideas advance. As heat it is radiated from the sun it heats the surface of the earth. Different parts of the earth’s surface get heated at different rates which leads to high and low pressures caused by air rising and sinking at differing speeds, this in turn creates a pressure gradient which is the fundamental mechanism behind wind. Wind which blows of water surfaces (such as oceans) creates waves which carry energy by the fact they are moving bodies. Devices have been developed which are able to harvest the energy in waves by converting the wave movement in to electricity. With the growing pressure to develop the effectiveness of renewable energy resources wave energy technology is changing all the time.

| Hydro wave and tidal are the renewable sources of energy. These hydro wave and tidal sources provide the major power of energy in the form of electricity. Let us get deeper into each of the sources of electricity. The hydro power plants are those which generate and provide electricity with the help of water from rivers. A hydropower plant mainly consists of a large catchments area known as the reservoir, dam and water turbine. The water is blocked at high pressure by the dam and is made to flow from high altitudes through large pressure pipes called the penstocks. The outlet of these penstocks is connected towards the large blades of water turbines. Thus the water at high pressure rotates the blades of the turbine. These turbines are coupled to the alternators which converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. The water after rotating the blades is drawn out through channels which provide water for agricultural purposes.
The wave power is used to generate electricity from the wave energy formed by sea and ocean waves. The wave power stations are classified as per the location and power take off system. Though discoveries have been found that the wave power stations can produce sufficient power, then also the wave power stations are not widely spread. The tidal energy is obtained from the tides. The tidal energy which is generated from the tidal waves is accepted more beneficial as compared to wind energy and solar energy. These tides are mainly generated from the strong gravitational attraction between the revolving earth and the moon. To generate power from tidal energy specific turbines like the axial water turbines are used to convert the tidal energy into electricity. |
