A cesspool is well which is bored deep into the earth with large circumference and dimensions. The cesspool has an open bottom and is mainly used to keep the discharged water and sewage wastes. It is basically a sink hole which collects the discharge from apartments, office buildings, hotels, motels, restaurants, schools, colleges, railway stations, bus stands, malls, hospitals etc. Since the cesspool has an open bottom, the solid and liquid wastes get easily decomposed into the soil or deep inside the underground, thus preventing the cesspool to overflow. As the cesspool is a sealed system, the maintenance of the cesspool is very difficult and risky job in case of any problems.
The cesspool is designed and manufactured depending on the amount and quantity of disposal from the various sources. If the disposal is less small cesspools are built and on the other hand if the sewage disposal is high in case of apartments, malls, hospitals and buildings large cesspool with high storage capacity are manufactured. In some countries the cesspool has been banned because of the fear that the cesspool could affect the ground water sources and other drinking water supplies because the waste water stored in these cesspools contains large quantity of bacteria and other chemical intoxicants like chlorine, nitrates, phosphates, chlorides and even grease and oily matters. It should be noted that the cesspools are not used as septic tanks. The liquid wastes stored in these cesspools cannot be used for further processes like cleaning, washing and watering plants because they are highly contaminated with bacteria and other chemical oxides. However it is essential to create a cesspool near our homes and apartments in order to prevent diseases like malaria and other harmful diseases.
