Homes in the UK produce 330 million tonnes of waste a year. The Govenment is looking at and introducing measures to reduce waste including charging people who do not recycle. Local Authorities in England have been told to increase recycling rates to 50% by 2020 – that is about double the current rate. An Open University survey suggests kerbside collection in England of recyclable items like glass and paper has already contributed to increased recycling rates. Green waste mainly refers to the natural food wastes and human and animal wastes. Green wastes are mainly called the biodegradable which are very rich in nitrogen.
